About the event

The North Carolina State Capitol is hosting a free weekly walking tour, We’ve Always Been Out There. It will focus on the history of protest and civil rights in Raleigh.

The tour takes place every Friday in February, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The tour will cover most of the 20th century and include discussion of the Temperance Movement, the Women’s Suffrage Movement, the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s and 70s, and many other topics.

The tour is approximately 0.5 miles of walking with a short stop at the City of Raleigh museum, so please bring a bottle of water and wear weather-appropriate clothing.

Tours will meet in front of the three presidents statue on the eastern side of Capitol Square and will last between 45 minutes to an hour. The nearest public parking is on Jones Street, behind the North Carolina Museum of History.
